The staff of Youghal SuperValu this year turned their Annual Staff Party into a fundraiser for the local Youghal Community First Responders. Organised by the ladies Pearl, Ellen and Donna the event was a leg and chest waxing to which the super gents on the staff agreed.
On Saturday last a cheque for €4,633.56 was presented to the First Responders who were absolutely delighted with the huge amount raised.
Accepting the cheque Patrick McCarthy said it is the aim of the Responders to have Defibrillators located all around Youghal. "Each Defibrillator and Green Box costs approximately €2,500 " he said, "but their value in terms of saving lives is immeasurable, and this fantastic cheque will go a long way to help".
Patrick went on to say that the door to door house collections for Defibrillators have already resulted in two machines being purchased and put in place "and these", he said, "were purchased by the people of Youghal and have already saved lives. We will not stop until all the estates have them"
Peter Brooks congratulated all his staff for their fantastic efforts for such a local worthy cause, and said they were delighted to be involved with the event.
Pearl Flanagan, on behalf of the organisers Donna and Ellen, said they were hoping to raise around €2,000 and were delighted with the fantastic response. She thanked sincerely all who supported the fundraiser, those who donated prizes for the Raffle, SuperValu for their c-operation and help, and especially the brave male staff who were the stars of the fundraising event.
Youghal Community First Responders have this year already responded to 170 calls. All Responders are voluntary and without their help and commitment, and the support of the people, the Service could not run".
