Christmas Soccer Tournament in Youghal to Raise Funds for the Homeless

By Jordan McCarthy

The Youghal United Christmas Cup will take centre stage at Ardrath Park at the end of the month – and all proceeds are in aid of the Cork Simon Community.
On Saturday December 30 from 11:00 am, eight teams of five will battle it out on the astro-turf of Youghal’s state-of-the-art all-weather pitch, in a Champions League-style tournament. The winning-team will claim local bragging rights, and a prize of €160. Funds raised will go to the homeless charity Cork Simon.
The competition is open to anyone over the age of 16, with a maximum of three League-registered players allowed on each team. Entry is €50 per squad (of eight people).
Speaking to the East Cork Journal, event organiser Thomas ‘Mossy’ Clohessy said; ‘‘I’ve held tournaments in Youghal before and they were very successful. The community gets involved and that’s the main thing. Bringing people together on an occasion, making it a success and raising money for a good cause (is the whole point of the tournament).’’
