The main event of the FEAST Cork Food Festival, its Market Day in Midleton, will take place this Saturday, 9 September.
The FEAST Cork Food Festival, formally the Midleton Food and Drink Festival, got underway this past Monday, 4 September and will hold events throughout East Cork this weekend with the main event set for this Saturday.
Main Street, Midleton will once again be closed off from 6am-7pm for the festival’s Market Day, which hopes to top the huge success of last year’s event, which showcased over 60 Stalls, cookery & drink demonstrations, kids entertainment and much more, attracting more than 25,000 people to Midleton.
New additions to this year’s itinerary include the Feast Cork Restaurant Tent, which will see local restaurateurs band together to offer visitors a taste of East Cork, and a long table communal eating area set up along Midleton’s Connolly Street.
This year’s itinerary will again include the Midleton Farmers Market, the Jameson Experience will hold tours of Midleton distillery as well as tastings, and the return of the Demo Marquee.
The Feast Demo Marquee will this year begin at 11.15am with a SECAD demonstration entitled “A Catalyst for Integration: Embracing multi-cultural Midleton. Following that Justin Green from Ballyvolane House will hold a Berthas Revenge Gin Demo beginning at 12.15pm. Then Fáilte Ireland’s Food Champion Patrick Ryan will hold a demo on baking at 1.15pm, followed by a seafood masterclass with Ciaran Scully of the Bayview Hotel, with food writer and celebrity chef Lilly Higgins holding her own demonstration from 3.15pm.
From 4.15-5pm the Demo Marquee will host a friendly competition between East Cork’s Kevin Aherne of Sage Restaurant against West Cork’s Martin Shanahan of Fishy Fishy restaurant in Kinsale. Both chefs will create two dishes based on seafood from each’s locality, with the crowd deciding the winner.
The kids’ area at this year’s Market Day will feature music shows, puppet shows, amusements and a vintage fair. Grow Your Own (GIY) will host a demonstration outside the Courthouse, which will be kid friendly and include question and answer time with expert growing veterans.
