One of the great aspects of Macra na Feirme is that it brings people together from various backgrounds. More often, the Macra calendar is full between sporting contests, speaking events, performing arts and agricultural happening that collectively gathers people. These aspects of Macra are some of foundation & pillars of the organisation and shows that Macra na Feirme is an organisation for everyone.

In Glanmire we have used these foundations to establish lasting friendships. So given a rare weekend where Glanmire officially had nothing Macra related, 18 members decide to have dinner together to further cement this comradery. Ultimately, Macra na Feirme is a social club. I know for myself, moving out of home, away from my peer group, there was a sense of isolation when I first moved to Cork. Glanmire Macra undoubtedly filled that void. It is an organisation with so much going on, it is hard not to get involved. For anyone between 17-35 years of age, I would strongly advise getting in touch with your local Macra – there will be friends and memories created that will last a lifetime.

The dinner was a celebration of the year so far and shows that as a group we are able to enjoy each other’s company outside the pillars of Macra na Feirme. For those who want to find out more about Glanmire Macra na Feirme, our monthly meeting will take place at the Stirrup Bar on Wednesday 14 February at 9pm.

Also we would like to remind people that our weekly sports night takes place this Tuesday and will be on every Tuesday at 9 pm. Our sports take place in the Upper Glanmire Hall.

Sport night provides a great informal way to find what Glanmire Macra is all about. The cost is €4 and everyone is welcome to come. If anyone is looking for further information on Glanmire Macra, find us on Facebook or contact our secretary Will on 0877469447.
