Lower Aghada is currently a hive of activity as works commence on the installation of the new car park surface. We have been very busy in recent months in Lower Aghada and we are all looking forward to the Christmas Period.

Car Park Project

Last week saw work commence on the resurfacing of the Car Park at the pier in Lower Aghada. It has been hoped to commence with the installation of rock armour on the perimeter this year but unfortunately due to the time of year this was not possible so instead the car park resurfacing phase is being done. It is expected that the project will be finished by 20th November. Commenting on the commencement of works; Shane Russell Group Chairperson; ‘this is fantastic news for Lower Aghada Pier. The car park is in a terrible state and this will make a huge difference. I would like to thank Cork County Council and all departments who have been involved in bring this project to fruition. Once complete we will have seen an investment in excess of €250,000 in the Lower Aghada Pier over the last 10 years and this is great for the area’. Many thanks to those who moved their dinghies and boats at such short notice. We apologies for any inconvenience caused but can assure you that this project will be a welcome addition to the Pier and surrounds.

Sporting Success

We would like to congratulate the Aghada Men’s and Ladies teams and Imokilly Hurlers who achieved success in recent weeks. It has been a great few weeks for the parish and it’s great to see the local community coming together to support the teams.

Pontoons

The Pontoons have been removed and berthed in their winter storage location. The landing pontoon at the steps remains in place so access is maintained to the pier by boat all year round.

Volunteers

Firstly, we would like to sincerely thank all of the volunteers who have helped out during the year without this help the Pier and surrounding area would not look as good as it does. If there is anyone else who is interested in volunteering, please do not hesitate to come forward and speak with any of our committee.
