The 38th Midleton heat of the over 60’s talent competition will be held in the Midleton GAA pavilion on Wednesday 20 February at 8 pm. This venue has held this heat since 1980 when Dan Mc Carthy from Aghada singing The Holy City was the winner he repeated the fete the following year as did Ballymacoda's Andy Jackson in 2017/18.
Andy will be guest singer this year along with Liam Mc Carthy and the overall winner of last year Dónal Mc Carthy. The Over 60’s competition was started by Paddy Ó Brien back in 1976 and is now one of the social events in Cork. The final night which will be held in the City Hall on the 16 June which has been a sell-out down through the years. Midleton were successful in 2014 when Charles Mc Allister singing 'My heart and I' did the business, and it's Charlie now who is looking for contestants for the local heat.
If you can sing tell a story dance or play an instrument you are welcome to come along and participate in a social setting where Betty Moloney will accompany the singers. Refreshments will be provided on the night. Admission is free and we are very grateful to Midleton Credit Union for again sponsoring the heat which is much appreciated. The winner on the night will go forward to the semi-final in the City Hall on May 7th where 14 will go forward to the final and a chance to collect the 1000 euro first prize.
