The doors of Cork ARC Cancer Support Centre in Youghal were open wide on Wednesday last to welcome everyone to the beautifully refurbished building on Friar Street. A Blessing of the new Centre was given by Rev Canon Herlihy Youghal Catholic Parish and Rev Patrick Hewitt Church of Ireland, who were joined by Pastor Paul McFarland and his family, Youghal Baptist Church. They represented three Churches in Youghal, all of whom were delighted to be present on this important day for the Youghal, East Cork and West Waterford areas.
Claire O'Neill, Co-Ordinator told The East Cork Journal that, from now on, the Centre will be open every Wednesday between 10am and 4pm. "This house belongs to the area and is for anybody who has been touched in any way by cancer. "No appointment is necessary, she said, “just pop in for a cup of tea and chat".
Claire went on to say that extra support services such as Touch Therapy, Counselling and Support Groups will all be available in ARC Cancer Support Centre Youghal. "Today is just the first day" she said, "but we are now open and will welcome anybody who wants to call". All services are free of charge.
Thanks were extended to Canons Hewitt and Herlihy and Paul McFarland for joining them on the day; all from the area who helped in many, many ways; the businesses and tradesmen who supplied furniture, stoves, paint and much more; the volunteers for their hard work since the very start of the project; all those who organised fundraisers and the very generous support of the people - all of whom have made the Cork ARC Cancer Support Centre Supporting East Cork and West Waterford, a reality.
