After 81 Years of Service, Muckley’s Jewellers in Youghal is Set to Retire

By Claire O’Donoghue

After 81 years and three generations of successful trading as Youghal Jewellers, Albert and Anne Muckley are to retire. A stalwart of the town’s Main Street, Muckley’s has surely decked out most, if not all, of Youghal’s inhabitants in the finest jewellery over the years. “I got that in Muckley’s” is the most likely response you’d get when admiring a quality piece of jewellery. Every family in Youghal has a treasure that Albert has provided, enhanced with engraving or lovingly cleaned and restored. Sitting -room cabinets across East Cork are proudly displaying celebratory trophies, plaques and medals hard won by children and adults alike – all adorned by the mastery and quality of Muckley’s jewellers. Golden bands bought there circle the wedding fingers of many locals and visitors; necks hold silver lockets with mementos of loved ones who have passed on; photo frames on shelves and beside lockers surround happy snapshots of family memories.

Speaking with The East Cork Journal, Albert said, “We are very happy to have served the people of Youghal all these years and are looking forward to our retirement. The townspeople have been very good to us and we are very grateful for all their support. We intend to continue trading until the end of the year and look forward to seeing you all over the coming months.”

While tinged with some sadness we wish Albert and Anne Muckley a very long, happy and well deserved retirement following their long success of making so many memories for the people of Youghal over the years.
