All set for Youghal’s Moby Dick Festival Weekend

Youghal Cub Scouts 32nd and 35th arrive for the Parade.

Youghal is primed and set as the date for the annual Moby Dick Festival approaches on the June Bank Holiday Weekend from Friday, 1 June to Sunday 3 June.
Youghal hero Davy Russell, 2018 Irish Champion Jockey and Aintree Grand National winner will officially open the Festival on Nealon’s Quay at 7.30pm. This will be followed by a barbeque overlooking the Mall Beach to music by the Youth Ukulele Band. There will be amusements on Nealon’s Quay for the entire weekend. Team Ahab and Team Moby will battle it out on the Mall Beach with water bombs and sponges-no doubt with the help of local children! This will be followed by Music by Legends.
On Saturday there will be a street market from 11am  to 4 pm. Book your Blackwater River Cruise departing from Nealon’s Quay at 10.30am Saturday and Sunday or Your Moby Dick Sea Cruise Experience to see the landmarks from the film. Departing Nealon’s Quay at 5.30 pm on Saturday and Sunday €20 pp. Bookings can be made through the tourist office.
There will be ongoing fun and entertainment all day including drumming workshops, children’s pottery making, puppet shows, karaoke competition with DJ Barty, Ahab’s Family Fun afternoon on the Mall Beach with tug of war, water war games, obstacle course, beach art and sandcastle competitions. There will be a number of performances on the Festival stage by local Tae Kwon Do students, Chatterbox children’s dance group, The Shandon Shawlies, and Deise Line Dancers. You can rock the night away with Music by The Smoking Doves at 7 pm.
On  Sunday come along to the Teddy Bears picnic at Farrell’s Bar Summerfield at 2pm for a fun event for all the family with children’s sport challenges, cupcake decorating, face painting, arts and crafts, bouncy castles etc. Music on the day is by DJ Barty. There will be social dancing on Nealon’s Quay at 4pm to music by Pat Tobin and Jim McGrath.  Also at 4 pm on Nealon’s Quay, teenagers will be able to compete for the title of King or Queen of the Moby Amusement challenge. The closing act of The Moby Dick Festival will be the fantastic Gemma and the Jets.
