The new taxi queuing system on Cobh’s Low Road is untenable and a new solution is required, Cobh Municipality Councillors have claimed.
Councillor Cathal Rasmussen branded the new Taxi queuing system as a shambles after taxis took to parking in public spaces rather than use a specially designed taxi rank.
Four, five bay holding ranks on the Western end of the low road, with a further three bay rank were located close to the railway station entrance.
Taxis in the holding area are called up to the ranks through a traffic signal once a space comes available close to the railway station enterance.
A mini roundabout was installed at the heritage centre to aid the taxis in the waiting area heading east towards the town centre to turn around in order to get back in position.
The plans were drawn up in consultation with the Port of Cork, the National Transport Authority and local operators to put some formality to the traffic situation in the area last December.
