Animal Rescue Cobh’s (ARC) table quiz last Thursday, 23 February raised €611 to make a dent in the group’s veterinarian bills.
ARC’s first fundraiser of the year was held at the Ballynoe Inn, Cobh with more than forty people participating.
“We had ten tables on the evening,” said Ann Scriven, Treasurer of Animal Rescue Cobh. “We had some lovely new people and a good few regular supporters in attendance. I was the quizmaster and made up the questions for the evening. It was mainly all general knowledge but we had two rounds of true or false. All the questions for round ten were all about Ireland. We raised over €600 which was great. We made €611 in total on the night.”
The table quiz also featured a raffle with one of ARC’s members winning a prize which she immediately returned. Most of the night’s prizes had been sourced or put together by ARC’s members, with a couple of prizes donated. The €611 raised helped to make a dent in the €2,000 owed by ARC to the veterinarian so far this year.
“The €2000 in vets’ bills is nearly taken care of thanks to the table quiz and to generous donations,” said Ms Scriven. “That’s also where the adoption money we charged people went towards. We took in 12 cats and kittens for the first two months of the year and now they are nearly all rehomed. That’s where the money charged for adoption goes to; to paying off the vets.”
ARC is currently taking in two kittens with the rest from the colony of 20 trapped, neutered and released. Three more kittens from that colony are still in the care of a veterinarian with their survival not guaranteed.
After rehoming the 12 cats and kittens ARC took in this year, the group has “started again and is taking in some more,” as Ms Scriven said. “We have to keep it small. It can’t be like last year when we had 40 or 50 in our care. The head needs to rule the heart this time.”
ARC will be present at Maxi Zoo in Midleton on Saturday, 1 April with hopes to raffle off an Easter hamper on the day, while another fundraiser, a Bring and Buy, will take place on Sunday, 23 April at 3pm again at the Ballynoe Inn. Anybody who wishes to donate items (household items, small furniture, electrical equipment, etc.) for the event can contact ARC by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by messaging the group on Facebook.
