Rushbrooke Rowing Club Cobh’s Masters Ladies who won gold at this year’s All Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships in Donegal.

The 26th Annual Charity Row Around the Island will take place in under two weeks’ time on Saturday, 16 September.
As usual Rushbrooke Rowing Club Cobh will be heavily involved in the 24km Around the Island charity row which will depart from the promenade at approximately 1.45pm. Members of Rushbrooke RC have sponsorship cards for the row, the proceeds of which will be split between Pieta House and the Irish Community Rapid Response.
Last year’s Round the Island Charity Row was held on 9 October, with 16 boats taking part, including teams from Rushbrooke, Passage, Kinsale, Whitegate, Blackrock, and Kilmacsimon. The event raised around €6,000 for Marymount University Hospital and Hospice. The 2016 event was organised by Rushbrooke RC, with the club usually involved in the setting up of the venue and post-row refreshments.
This year’s Row Around the Island, also known as the Great Island Row, follows on from a successful showing by Rushbrooke at the All Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships in Donegal during the weekend of 18-20 August.
The club was represented by crews in categories from U12s up to Masters with four of its ladies teams returning to Cobh with medals, winning gold in the Masters Ladies, returning with silver in the Under-21 Ladies and in the Intermediate Ladies, and bronze in the Veteran Ladies.
The club continues to train after the close of the competitive season, with training sessions taking place on the water from the strand in Rushbrooke at 6.15pm on Wednesday nights and 10.30am on Sunday mornings. New members are always welcome, with the minimum age requirement set at 10 and there being no upper age limit.
