Cork ARC’s annual Flag Day Collection in Youghal will take place on Thursday 23 August, 2018.
All collectors are volunteers, meaning that 100% of donations received will directly fund the services of Cork ARC whose service in Youghal is open each Wednesday to support cancer patients and their families in East Cork and West Waterford, free of charge.
Cork ARC offers a free, community based service for all those who have been affected by cancer. Their service is nurse led, supported by a team of volunteer listeners, therapists and counsellors, all trained and accredited. Cork ARC’s support service is professional and confidential.
Colette Cahill and her team of trained volunteer listeners and therapists welcome anyone affected by cancer (patient or family member) to drop in or telephone without an appointment, to talk in confidence with a trained volunteer listener, each Wednesday between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. Therapeutic massage, reflexology, counselling and art therapy are all offered in complement to the medical model, so as to alleviate the stress associated with a cancer diagnosis.
Acknowledging the ethos of volunteering being the driving force behind the charity’s work in the community, Colette Cahill, Community Cancer Support Co-ordinator for Cork ARC in Youghal says, “As all of the services at Cork ARC are supported by a large volunteer base, we hope that our volunteer collectors’ generosity of spirit will be rewarded by a warm reception from the people of Youghal at our annual Flag Day.”
