Ballinrostig Vintage Club Annual Field Day Huge Success

Our 12th Annual Field Day was opened by Hannah Looney with Irish Vintage Society President, John Madden, in attendance.  Landowner, John Pope, hosted the Munster Sheepdog Trials.  There were over 130 vintage vehicles and static engines registered on Sunday to display and receive their commutative brass plaque. We were delighted to show 16 Nuffield tractors brought together for a special commemoration of ‘Nuffield 50 Years On’.
The Award for Best Tractor overall went to Pat O’Connell for his Universal Nuffield.
We were honoured to present Shane O’Sullivan with his VW Golf trophy for Best Car.
Best Motorcycle was Donnie O’Driscoll and his Honda 50.
Last, but by no means least, we had Denis Kelly’s Land Rover.
In the Football there was a local challenge between Vintage Clubs, with Youghal taking the Title.   Ballin would have won had we not been exhausted from all the preparations over the last few days and nights!!! Local vintage clubs Carrigtwohill, Fota, Youghal and Mogeely came along to support, and sometimes challenge us too.
However, Club Chairman Jim Wall did retain the Memorial Trophy in the Tractor Barrel Race and in the Sheaf Throwing Jason Shanahan proved a worthy winner, with Katie Sloane taking the women’s title.
Best Dressed Lady was undoubtedly Angela Savage, with Dick Condon as Best Man on the day.
Overall the club had a great day and we hope that everyone else did also. The cheques to charity will be presented in November adding to the €80,000 already donated.
Now, thinking about next year...
