Ballinrostig Vintage Club’s Annual Memorial Run is set to take place this Sunday, 22 October.
The Memorial Run will begin and end at Aghada Community Hall in Upper Aghada where participants will meet up from 12.30pm. There is no registration fee for the run and all vintage tractors, cars and motorcycles are welcome to take part.
“Our Memorial Run is taking place this Sunday,” said Denis O’Driscoll of Ballinrostig Vintage Club. “We will be assembling at the hall from 12.30pm as there is a mass in Aghada and we don’t want to add to the disruption. There will be no cover charge as it is a memorial run. All vintage cars, tractors and bikes and so on are all welcome.”
The run will be held in memoriam for the club’s past members.
“It was formally the Pat Hickey Memorial Run,” said O’Driscoll, “but we have dropped the name this year as a second member has passed away, so it has become a general memorial run for all our deceased members of the club.”
The departure time scheduled for 1pm and the route is approximate 20km in length. Tractors will stay relatively local, with a route manoeuvring through Aghada and Whitegate, while cars and motorcycles will take a larger tour of East Cork.
“The tractors will tour the local area,” said Mr O’Driscoll. “Both deceased members were from the local area so we will be passing their houses as a mark of respect. The tractors will stay around the Whitegate area and the cars will run around East Cork. Both groups will later go back to the hall for a bit of food.”
Next month Ballinrostig Vintage Club will hold its 10 year anniversary dinner dance on Saturday, 11 November. Garryvoe Hotel will host the celebrations, which will include a three course meal, spot prizes, live music and a DJ, from 9pm.
“Those who would like tickets to the dinner dance can contact anyone at the club,” said Mr O’Driscoll, “or call into the hall on the day of the Memorial Run.”
