Ballintotis Community Council, following a meeting on Monday, 29 October, has announced its plans for the annual Fundraising Table Quiz. Now in its 20th year, this local event started in 1999 and has become a highly popular date for the social diary. The date this year will be Friday, 23 November at 8.30pm in the Two Mile Inn Bar. Originally, the fundraiser was set up to help fund the Ballintotis Soccer Club, but they disbanded in 2010. Since then, the Council Committee has continued running the quiz to maintain and enhance local amenities. Past funds raised have, for example, gone towards the purchase and placement of seating at Loughaderra.
Speaking with Ivor Knowles (Committee Member, Ballintotis Community Council), he said, “Proceeds raised from the upcoming quiz on November 23, will be used to enhance lake frontage, carry out general landscaping of the area, and we also need some gravel over by the boats. We’d encourage everyone to come out and support the event. Loughaderra is a beautiful local amenity for everyone in the area, and for visitors who stop on their travels to enjoy the view so it is vital that we keep it looking its best. There’s always great craic on the night and some fairly interesting answers to some awkward questions! We will, of course, be having our raffle with lots of great prizes up for grabs.”
Sadly missed at the Quiz this year will be one of the driving forces behind it, Dominic Knowles (Ivor’’s brother). Dominic tragically lost his life in March in an accident at the Distillery and his death is a huge loss to all who knew him. He was a stalwart of the quiz fundraiser every year, for his local community.
