Ballycotton Hosts Music at the Mary Stanford Followed by Table Quiz Fundraiser this Friday

Ballycotton hosts two lifeboat-themed events this Friday, 4 August with the first being a gig at the retired Mary Stanford lifeboat which will be followed by a table quiz fundraiser.
The third annual Music at the Mary Stanford event, held at the lifeboat itself near the Cliff Walk in Ballycotton, will take place from 6.30-8pm with all welcome to attend. The event is free-to-attend and organised by the Ballycotton Development Company.
Youghal trad and folk band Duffy’s Cut will perform at the event. The organisers suggest that those attending bring along a picnic, though there will be free teas and coffees, as well as free ice cream for the kids, available on the day.
The gig will be followed by a fundraising table quiz at the Schooner bar in Ballycotton from 9.30pm. The fundraiser will include a monster auction and a table of four is priced at €20, with the proceeds going towards Ballycotton Lifeboat.
The lifeboat service and the famous Mary Stanford are heavily intertwined with Ballycotton’s history. The Mary Stanford served as a RNLI lifeboat in the area for nearly 30 years. The vessel is most famous for its part in the Daunt Lightship rescue in 1936, during which she and her crew saved seven people during a 63-hour rescue.
Thanks to the hard work of the committee and the support of Ballycotton and East Cork locals, in 2014 the Mary Stanford was brought back to Ballycotton and restored, rather than scuttled as originally intended.
