The Ballycotton Ride by the Tide fundraiser for two charities is set to take place this weekend on Sunday, 27 August.
The Charity Fun Ride and Walk will meet near Bun Hill, Ballycotton before departing at 12pm sharp in the direction of Ballycrenane, approximately six miles away. The registration fee for walkers is set at €5 and set at €10 for those riding a horse, pony or in a carriage. The proceeds from the event will go towards Marymount University Hospital and Hospice and My Lovely Horse Rescue.
“We will have three separate groups on the day; local riders with their horses, walkers, and those using the traps provided by Lily Jane Carriages,” said Vicky Tate, one of the organisers of the event. “Afterwards there will be light refreshments and some music. We would ask people to contact the event’s page on Facebook to say that they are coming, as we would like to have an idea of the numbers in order to sort out the refreshments. But people can still turn up on the day, as everybody will be paying on the day as they enter the field. But it would be very helpful for people to let us know they will attend through the events page on Facebook.”
The meeting place and starting point will be a field at the top of Bun Hill which will be signposted. All participants must wear the required safety gear and appropriate, preferably water-resistant footwear. Participants should organise transport back from Ballycrenane from approximately 5pm onward, when it is estimate all three groups should arrive.
“There is three of us on the committee,” said Ms Tate, “and on behalf of all of us I would like to thank everyone for supporting us in organising this event and for participating in it. We would like to especially thank SBD Insurance and Collette at their Mallow branch, as well as the landowners. We would also like to thank all those helping out on the day. We are extremely grateful.”
