Ballymacoda Hunt Club is holding their 10th Annual Fun Ride on Sunday, 7 October at 12.30pm. The event has had a great turnout in past years and, speaking with The East Cork Journal Laura Hyde (Secretary, Ballymacoda Hunt Club) said, “Hopefully we will be able to keep up the great record of entrant numbers this year. We have a fantastic route set out that really shows off some of the area's best scenery.” All participants are strongly encouraged to come early to avoid a delayed start.
The route follows Ballymacoda towards Knockadoon and around the Head, taking in beautiful views of Ballycotton Island, then onto Ballycrenane and back to Ballymacoda. Along the course, there will be over 60 jumps to add to the fun! Organisers are eager to point out, however, that each fence, bank or obstacle not only has various difficulty / height levels but every jump is entirely optional. There are bypass routes at each, making it a fun ride that will truly be suitable for all ages, abilities and confidence levels.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to Cork ARC Cancer Support House in Friar Street Youghal. Registration fees are €30 for horses, €20 for ponies. There are prizes of equine goodies for the best turned out horse and pony. Theses prizes were kindly sponsored by O’Brien’s Saddlery Bandon and Ryall O’Mahony Farm Supplies in Midleton.
