The annual Blue Light Regatta will take place in less than two weeks’ time on Sunday, 7 May with this looking to be its biggest year yet.
The third Blue Light Regatta, hosted by Whitegate Rowing Club, will take place in Whitegate and will feature a series of races, both competitive and non-competitive, culminating the competitive Blue Light Boat Race.
“We have had fantastic interest so far,” said Austin Cleary, Chairman of Blue Light Boat Race Committee. “We are looking to double the number of races as the previous year and we have a great deal of new interest. We will have not just the full competitive Blue Light Race, but also other categories. For instance we have some fellow businesses egging each other on, not wanting to come second in their race. There are plenty of good vibes.”
For the Blue Light Regatta’s first year, 2013, it was just one race incorporated within the Whitegate Regatta, but the following year it was held as a separate event and it branched out to other groups, allowing for not just blue light (emergency services) crews but competitive businesses, hospitality, schools, coastal rowing crews, sports clubs, gyms and other crews to take part in the day’s races.
