Bunscoil Rinn an Chabhlaigh Launch Pedal-Powered Cinema Fundraiser for Therapy Room

Bunscoil Rinn an Chabhlaigh, a primary School in Rushbrooke Cobh, has launched a gigantic campaign to fundraise €10,000 in order to set up a state-of-the-art multi-purpose therapy room for children with special educational needs.
In order to raise the €10,000 the school is hosting a unique event on 25 June in the school hall at 4.30pm; a big screen showing of The BFG which will be powered solely by pedal power from eight stationary bikes.
The school has an enrolment of 761 children along with four special educational classes. The provision of a therapy room will be of enormous benefit to the many children in the school who need assistance with school life, providing them with occupational therapy, sensory integration and processing therapy, and an area for visiting therapists and professionals to work in private with the children. Occupational therapy can help to improve their motor, cognitive, sensory processing, communication, and play skills.
Sineád Flannery, Principal of Bunscoil Rinn an Chabhlaigh said: “I cannot overemphasise the importance of our school raising enough funds to set up this room.”
“Our children,” continued Principal Flannery, “need it to help them participate more fully in their daily school and home lives. We are delighted with the local response and we are looking forward to many parents getting involved to help us out also.”
The school is looking for 72 volunteers to fundraise and pedal the bikes. If volunteers are unable to cycle, they can nominate a cyclist. The school is also approaching local businesses to support the venture. A variety of advertising opportunities are available for businesses, with contributions varying from €50 to €500 towards the cost of the room. Tickets are €5 each and are available from the school office. Buy early to avoid disappointment as places are limited.
