Calling All Young Film Makers

By Seamus Whelehan

Cork Young Filmmakers Academy are hoping to unleash your child’s inner Spielberg and with this in mind, the Cork Film Centre will run a Winter Boot Camp in Midleton, for teenagers aged 13 -19.
The course is part funded by Cork County Council and South East Cork Area Development (SECAD).
Organisers are presently seeking those interested in the course, which can facilitate up to 12 people.
Location and date will be announced closer to the time, but it will be held during the school midterm.
Places are offered on a first come first served basis, so it is important that you register your child’s interest now.
The programme is designed to develop confidence in young film makers in acting, writing and directing.
Youth Development Officer, Mary McGrath who is co-ordinator for this year’s event says “it’s all about having fun, learning new skills, building confidence, encouraging creativity and self-expression.”
Over the two days students will learn the tools of the trade from industry experts Chris Hurley, Director of the Cork Film Centre, and Film Manager Max La Cain.

All films will be premiered on the big screen at an exciting Film Gala event hosted by Cork County Council on November 22 at Vertigo, Cork County Hall.
