On Sunday, 2 March the doors of The Blackbird in Ballycotton will open at 7.30pm to host a fundraising night for the Cork University Hospital Cardiac Unit. The idea behind the event is a Thank You to all the staff in the Cardiac Unit from local Ballycotton resident Gordon Keeling and his wife Catherine. Gordon suffered a very bad heart attack last February, which also resulted in other serious cardiac complications. Speaking with The East Cork Journal Gordon said, “It is thanks to the staff at the Unit, and the great care which I received, that my recovery is going so well, especially considering how bad I actually was”.
The fundraiser will consist of a Buffet Supper, with extra sides of entertainment. There will be an Auction of items such as a Munster Rugby ball signed by the team, an Irish Rugby Jersey signed by current 6 Nations star, Peter O’Mahony and vouchers from Musgraves, Dulux and more. There are also many prizes donated for the raffle, with hampers galore up for grabs. All that excitement will be rounded off with the ultimate 80s disco. It really sounds like a fantastic night, and all for such a great cause.
Gordon said, “All proceeds will be going to the purchase of a special reclining Cambridge Chair to help patients feel more comfortable in the days post-surgery. The post-op aftercare is just as important as the surgery. The amazing staff at the Cardiac Unit in CUH saw me through it all. They offer rehab courses, physiotherapy and were always at the end of the phone once I returned home from the hospital. I haven’t looked back since I recovered from the surgery and, while I have some lifestyle changes, I feel I’m really getting back on track. I’d like to thanks all those who have donated prizes and gifts and bought tickets. Ballycotton has always been great to support its community. A very special thanks to Mossie Tattan and all at the Blackbird and to Ryan’s SuperValu for sponsoring all the food.”
Please note that this event is ticketed as food needs has to be estimated and prepared. Only about 25 tickets are left, so if you want to have a great night out and all for a worthy cause, tickets can be purchased beforehand at The Blackbird or from Gordon on 087 7652686.
