Carrigtwohill Vintage Club will hold their Annual Jimmy McCarthy Memorial Run on Sunday, 1 July. Registration opens at 10.30am with all motors ready to start their engines at 11.30am. The starting point is the Cousins Home Bar. The Run is open to all classic, vintage and modern tractors, trucks, cars and bikes.
This particular run is, of course, close to hearts of all members as it is in memory of the first ever member of the local vintage club, Jimmy McCarthy. Jimmy is well remembered as the elder (indeed eldest ever), wiser voice, ready to help with all activities and pass on his extensive knowledge to new members. He was one of the stalwarts of the club, heavily involved in its set up and growth to today's present success. The club is keen to acknowledge two other member who have dedicated years of work to the club and, sadly, have passed on in recent times. Dennie Hennessy, another founding member, who died last month, was the smiling, jovial man also always ready to ready to lend a hand where necessary. Willy Jagoe, who died in the last year, was hugely committed to all things vintage and always maintained a strong presence at the club's meetings and events. All three are sadly missed by members, not only for all the work they put into the club over the years and their wide range of knowledge, but for their larger than life, kindly personalities which added so much to the atmosphere of events that were held.

The Carrigtwohill Vintage Club hopes to see people out and about on the day and ready to give a wave as they pass by. As usual, all proceeds raised by events are distributed between local community charities at the end of the year. Please come out and support this very special, poignant run on July 1. Speaking with The East Cork Journal, Club Secretary and PRO, Johnny Buckley said “We would like to give special thanks to our sponsors through the year as, without them, none of our events would be possible.”
If you are interested in joining the club, you don't have to be vintage yourself, young and old with an interest are welcome. You can contact them on 087 4015565, find them on Facebook or email
