Cobh Classic

Lines of magnificent classic cars will arrive in Cobh on Saturday, 23 June for the annual Cobh Classic. Now in its 7th year, the event has grown in popularity and numbers since it first began back in 2012. Covering 60 miles of beautiful East Cork, participants will take in the glorious scenery of the region. The motorcade will leave Cobh’s Commodore Hotel at 11.30am. The Commodore is, of course, synonymous with the motor sporting days of old.
Through the towns and villages including Aghada, Midleton, Ladysbridge, Dungourney and more, onlookers can watch the wonderful display of vintage vehicles as the go by. A tea/coffee break will be provided on Garryvoe Beach to all participants courtesy of Sandra O’Shea, Proprietor of Trade Winds Café Cobh, before the cars continue on the selected route. Lunch will be available back in the Commodore Hotel at 4pm.
Speaking with The East Cork Journal, Clerk of the Course, Tom McGoey said “We’re hoping for the usual great turnout for the event this year, and of course for the sun to make an appearance. It’s always a great, fun event for participant and spectators alike.”
Great Island Motors is the main sponsor of the event again this year and, along with others, have organised trophies for Best Car, Oldest Car and Furthest Travelled, as well as other spot prizes which will be awarded on the day. Check in for the event, which begins at 9.30am, costs €25. Entrants are advised to check in as soon as possible on the day.
All proceeds from the day are in aid of the Cobh Family Resource Centre which provides help and support for all members of the community. The centre is an invaluable place where anyone in need of family services, such as employment support and advice, adult education, parenting courses and so much more, are made available.
Founded in 2011, the Cobh Classic Car Club meets on the second Wednesday of the month at the Commodore Hotel at 8pm. Those

interested in joining are reminded that they do not need to own a classic car to become a member, simply have an interest. Further details can be accessed by emailing or finding them on Facebook
