Cobh Lions Club Ready to Strut the Catwalk for Cancer Care Centre

By Claire O’Donoghue

Cobh Lions Club’s 4th Fashion Show and Luxury Raffle will take place on Friday, 14 June at 8pm. The Commodore Hotel, Cobh will host the event with tickets priced at €10. The proceeds will go to the Cork Cancer Care Centre. The Centre is a voluntary Cancer Support Group for all who have, or had cancer, their carers, families and friends. The group receives no Government funding and relies on fundraising and donations in order to carry out its work. It provides many services and therapies, including free counselling and Blankets of Hope.

Speaking with Lions Club Zone Chairperson, Orla Flavin, she said, ““Proceeds donated from this event will be targeting a more specific area of the Cancer Care Centre. Funds will go towards Oncology training for the Therapist at the Centre to maximise the benefits of the holistic / alternative treatments and therapies they offer.”

Music on the night will be provided by DJ Mike Bardsley and the MC is Anne McSweeney. Makeup will be provided by The Vanity X Makeup Academy. Local clothing shops will provide the outfits that will grace the stages, but there is still time for other clothing stores in Cobh to get involved. Organisers are also in need of 5 more models to volunteer their time on the catwalk. If you are an interested business or a volunteer model for the evening, please contact Orla on 087 265 9880.

“We would like to thank the fantastic Commodore Hotel and our generous sponsors who are giving their time and talents,” said Orla, “The night wouldn't be possible without our super models, all fabulous local ladies braving the ramp for such a wonderful charity. Thank you also to Mike Bardsley who will not only be the DJ on the night but also sponsored the printing costs, and to our MC Anne McSweeney.  Our escorts this year, led by our Club President Tom Butler, are all members of Cobh Lions Club.”

Tickets are available from the Commodore Hotel or from Orla Flavin.
