Cobh Lions Club to Serve Free Breakfasts!

By Claire O'Donoghue

On Saturday, 16 June, from 10am-12noon, Cobh Lions Club will host free breakfasts! The club will be in the Community Centre with the kettle on and hot food ready and waiting. Speaking with the East Cork Journal Club Secretary, Orla Flavin said “we want to do this to give something back to the community and generous people of Cobh who support us all year round.” The Lions Club has been serving the town now for 22 years. The ethos at the heart of the Lions Club is to encourage and empower volunteers to serve their communities, and encourage them to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare in that community.
At the event, there will be a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award to a member of the community in recognition of all the work they have done for the town of Cobh. The Award is the highest Award bestowed by Lions International, and is named for its founder who formed the Lions Club in Chicago in 1917.
Come along to the Community Centre next Saturday from 10am-12noon for a delicious free breakfast, a chat with friends, and of course plenty of hot tea!
