By Alan Sheehan

Cobh Rescue Horses is holding its Family Fun Day this Saturday, 24 June.
Hosted by Cobh Pirates Rugby Club, the Family Fun Day begins at 2pm and will feature a host of activities, hot food and performances by local bands. Admission costs €5 for adults while children enter for free, with the proceeds going towards the general running costs for Cobh Rescue Horses.
The activities available on the day will be suitable for children and adults and will include egg-and-spoon races, three-legged races, hobby horse races, horse and pony rides and a meet and greet with Cobh Rescue Horses’ mascot, along with many more, such as a tug of war for kids and one for adults which will be between two teams formed on the day.
“We will have a tug of war for children and one for adults,” “We will have Pinto for the pony rides and our mascot Clyde will be there for a meet and greet,” said Tara Murphy of Cobh Rescue Horses. “We will have a tug of war for children and one for adults, with the later run by two personal trainers who will be there on the day: Liz Cronin and Trevor Cummins. They will start the teams on the day and it will be Team Liz versus Team Trevor. They will be on hand to judge the races and work along with us for the full day.”
The team captains will be Liz Cronin, a personal trainer with ten years’ experience in the health and fitness industry who is based out of Glanmire but also takes clients from her home town in Cobh, and Trevor Cummins, a sub-three hour marathon runner who’s business is based out of Cobh and is open to people of all abilities.
The proceeds from Cobh Rescue Horses’ Family Fun Day will go towards the general running costs of the Cobh-based group that rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes equines.
Following the Fun Day, Cobh Rescue Horses will hold a Bring and Buy sale at the Ballynoe Inn on Sunday, 2 July. The group are accepting donations of items such as books, clothes, bags, jewellery, tows, ornaments, handbags, shoes, etc.
