The amazing work of the crew at Cobh Rescue Horses diligently continues and, throughout the harsh weather condition, the need for aid in greater than ever. With 25 horses, ponies and foals currently in their care as well as foster horses to check on, the volunteers are working extremely hard keeping each animal fed, equipped for the cold weather, socialised, and routinely seen by farriers and vets. Only for their constant dedication, many perfectly healthy horses would have ended up in knackeries or living, neglected, in the most appalling of conditions. As well as the manual labour involved in keeping these animals, fundraising to support their care is another vital requirement of the volunteer group.

To that end, this Saturday, 2 February at Cobh Ramblers Rugby ground, there will be a “New for You” sale in aid of Cobh Rescue Horses commencing at 12noon.

Speaking with The East Cork Journal one of the main volunteers and carers, Tara Murphy said, “The items which have been donated so far are absolutely fantastic, so much so in fact, that we’re going to have a Raffle also on the day as we received a donation of Afternoon Tea for 2 at the fabulous Fota House Hotel. Other donations have come through unwanted Christmas presents in the form of clothes, jewellery, household items – mostly still in their boxes. We’d like to thank everyone who has donated so far. We continue to accept all manner of items that in good condition- from furniture to toys, dresses to ornaments and everything in between. We hope to see a great turnout on Saturday.

We’d like to thank our local community which has always been great to support us and we look forward to their continued support in the coming year.”

If you’d like to find out more about the great work done at Cobh Rescue Horses, please find them on Facebook or by calling 087 1763350. If you think you could offer a loving foster home, or forever home, to one of the many horses or ponies in their care, the group would love to hear from you. Similarly, if you can volunteer some time, or donate any equine equipment, all help would be gratefully received.
