The Cobh Readers and Writers' Festival will hold a special screening of the film An Only Child, based on the early-life memoirs of the same name written by renowned Cork author Frank O’Connor, on Tuesday, 2 May.
The screening of An Only Child will be a Cobh premier of the made-for-TV film and will be held at the Jack Doyle Room of the Commodore Hotel at 8pm. Tickets cost €10 and will be available at the door, with all welcome to attend.
“It was filmed in Cobh in 1973 and features Cobh actors,” said John Smith, organiser of the event, “including 6th class students from back then who attended the Presentation Brothers’ School in Cobh. The story is about the writer Frank O’Connor’s early life and the main actor is Brian Frahill, one of the students, with Pat Carey playing a younger Frank in some scenes. Joe Lynch, the Cork actor who is no longer with us unfortunately, is the biggest name in the film, playing Frank’s dad.”
