Cork County Council say they hope to ease traffic congestion near Midleton in a roundabout way.
The local authority is to publish a new plan to increase traffic flow at the lake view roundabout shortly.
The junction which links the R630 to the N25 is frequently congested in the morning and evening rush hours as motorists travel to and from work.
Cork County Council say they are conceding to a number of requests for a slip lane for traffic coming from the Whitegate side towards Cork, despite the lack of funding for the project.
Independent Councillor Noel Collins welcomed the news stating the programme of works is vital to keep East Cork moving.
He said he was pleased to see the project being progressed and requested mirrors would be included in the design phase.
At present the National Roads Design office are carrying out a preliminary report with plans set to go on public display next month.
Director of Roads and Transport in Cork County Tom Stritch said he hopes to have designs published by mid-February so in the event funding can be sourced the project could progress immediately.
Last year €2million for the scheme which would have potentially freed up development of 1092 new homes was refused under the local infrastructure housing activation fund (LIHAF).
The scheme was operated by the department of housing to fund key infrastructure capable of opening up land for development.
