Councillor Noel Collins Says Let’s Turn Hopelessness into Hope

Housing shortages, inadequate rent supplements and rising rents are all adding to our homeless problem Cllr Noel Collins told Monday’s Southern Committee in County Hall.
The lack of affordable housing options across East Cork has led the Independent Cllr to seek the establishment of a fully serviced caravan parking and camping site in the Midleton area.
“With the housing crisis many people searching for emergency housing have to make do with a tent or a caravan, but have nowhere to pitch them.”
The numbers of homeless in the area is increasing, people need somewhere safe and warm to go and need shelter, he told the executive.
Simon Community say the lack of available beds in their emergency accommodation led them to turn 10 people a night away in the first two weeks of May.
