Creative Killeagh Art Campaign Launched this Week

By Alan Sheehan

Creative Killeagh, a continuous programme of art-based events that will last approximately seven months, was launched this Halloween night.
A crowd of approximately 50 people were at Greywood Arts in Killeagh to attend to program launch, which was followed by a performance by artist Léann Herlihy.
Ms Herlihy, who led two carpentry workshops the previous week as a lead up to the night’s Woodshop event, put on a visceral and physically challenging performance which included audience participation.
The event was kid-friendly and included games such as snap apple, drawing stations, Halloween-themed treats and bonfires for roasting marshmallows.
Jessica Bonenfant Coogan, Director of Greywood Arts and Facilitator of Creative Killeagh, welcomed guests, introduced the artists involved and spoke about the Creative Killeagh programme which will run until May Sunday (6 May, 2018). Lead artists Lisa Cahill, Carol Anne Connolly, and Kara Sweeney were also on hand to speak with guests about their background and ideas for Creative Killeagh Projects.
“The Creative Killeagh team is beyond delighted with how the week’s events turned out,” said Ms Bonenfant Coogan. “We are feeling full with creativity, history and the generosity of all who participated.”
Ms Bonenfant Coogan and those involved in facilitating Creative Killeagh also expressed their gratitude for receiving the Cork County Council Creative Communities grant, which made the project possible. They also thanked Creative Ireland for funding the first artist-in-the-community residency in the Creative Killeagh programme.
Creative Killeagh is organised through Greywood Arts, Killeagh-Inch Community Council, Inch Foróige, and local volunteers and is supported by Creative Communities funding from Cork County Council and by Creative Ireland.
