On August 17 and 18, CRY104fm are holding their 2nd annual Spin-a-thon and Radiothon. Last year’s event was a tremendous success and raised €9,000. Speaking with The East Cork Journal, Linda O’Connell from CRY said, “The Spin-a-Thon will be the same format as last year. Teams were very competitive so it was great fun!” The idea of the Spin-a-Thon is that a group of between 2-4 people cycle, between them, over an hour and the team with the most mileage clocked up wins €500 for the charity, community group/ non-profit organisation of their choice. The main rule is that only ONE member of the team can be a member of a cycling club. It costs €40 to enter a team. Exercise bikes fitted with odometers will be stationed outside John Kennedy’s shop from Friday morning until Saturday evening. Slots go fast so be sure to get signed up quickly. €40 to be in with a chance to win €500 for a great cause is always worth the punt! Last year’s winning team included Peter Queally, Frances Wiggins and Trevor Montgomery who, between them, covered 31.4km and handed the €500 prize money to Down Syndrome Cork.
Alongside the Spin-a-Thon, CRY’s Radiothon starts on the Friday morning at 9am and continues non-stop for 50 hours. Plenty chat, music and stories from locals to keep everyone entertained, as always”.
