Pieta House is a centre for the prevention of suicide and self-harm. It offers free therapies and counselling to those in suicidal distress or engaging in self harm. It also offers counselling to those bereaved by suicide.2017 figures for Ireland show 392 lives were lost to suicide, more than a life a day. The symbolic walk of Darkness into Light represents the journey of those coming out of the darkness of suicidal thoughts and depression and into the light of hope in a brighter future. There is no city, town or village in Ireland that has not been affected at some time by suicide in the community and the confusion, incredulity and pure grief that surrounds it. Pieta House and each community that takes part in Darkness into Light want to let those suffering know they are not alone. The sheer crowds that took part in each event last year is testament to that. Communities stand together, shoulder to shoulder to support those who need it most and think all is lost. Together, we will find it. Help is here.
