The Carrigtwohill Community First Responders (CFR) are the latest addition to the voluntary emergency medical response provided by East Cork Rapid Response. In February 2016 the first meeting of the CFR’s took place and ECRR outlined its plans to form its first community first responder group in Carrigtwohill. This meeting was attended by a group of local people who were interested in being trained by ECRR and making themselves available to respond to Cardiac Arrest incidents in the local community.
Since that first meeting the group have met for regular training every month, and currently has 14 members. In September of 2016 the group became linked to the National Ambulance Service. This means that as soon as a 999/112 call is received for a patient in Cardiac Arrest within a 6km radius of Carrigtwohill, the CFR’s are contacted automatically via Text message. The CFR members who are ‘on-call’ at the time will then make their way to the incident address, which will be included in the text message, and provide high quality Basic Life Support (CPR & Defibrillation)
