John O’Connell a.k.a. “Mouth of the South” has won the title of Microblogger of the Year at the International Runway and Recognition Awards (I.R.A.R.A.) in Dublin. Now in its 4th year, the Awards are run by AC Matilda Enterprise, a fashion and entertainment events management company. Highly coveted and internationally recognised, they celebrate achievements and work in the areas of Social Media, Pageantry, Entertainment, Fashion and Community.

John’s Award comes under the Social Media heading. This was his first year being among the nominees chosen and voted for by the public, so it was a fantastic achievement to come away with the Award. He has been microblogging for two years now and this is the second Award he has won in that time. He previously won a Hi Style Award for his fun and outspoken microblogging. His colourful “wordbites”, creative hashtagging and charming pictures make for some very memorable and “so John” anecdotes that brighten many people’s day.

Speaking with The East Cork Journal he said, “I love going off the beaten track and being out and about. It’s brought me in touch with many old friends, and new ones which is great. If my microblogging makes anyone smile on a day then that’s what I care about. I love to see people enjoying themselves. I thrive on the feel-good factor and love to give a nod to, and recognise small businesses working away at what they do best, charity volunteers donating their time and efforts and any and all community, culture and of course fashion events. I do love fashion, styles and trends and could easily chat away about such all day.”

John is back full time at Midleton’s SuperValu after recently breaking his leg. He can be found front of house at the tills where he’s ready with for his usual banter and chat with everyone and anyone. He’s the Schweppes in your gin and tonic, a full bubbly personality and instantly recognisable. “I’m thrilled to have the won Award for something I enjoy doing so much and I feel very grateful and humbled to have been voted and nominated by the public. It makes me determined go on writing my little blogs and stories and enjoying the people I meet along the way. #BartlemysBridgetJonesDiary”

John’s next adventure continues with the Cork’s Got Talent final in aid of Down Syndrome Cork. The event takes place on Saturday, 20 April in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Little Island at 7pm, where John will be judging the Best Dressed Lady and Best Dressed Gent.
