East Cork Junior “A” Football Semi-Final

Erin’s Own 2-20
Russell Rovers 0-07

The first of the Michael O’Connor Motor factors Junior “A” football semi-finals took place at the well-appointed Pairc Uí Chonaill in Cobh on Sunday evening with Erin’s Own taking on Russell Rovers for a spot in the final.
Erin’s Own set about their task early with James Taylor opening the scoring with a first minute point. While Brian Hartnett levelled as he deflected over for a point, it was to be the only time the sides were level. Mossy Carroll edged the Caherlag outfit back in front before former Munster Rugby player Tomas O’Leary struck for the opening goal in the 6th minute to increase their advantage. Even though Erin’s own were playing int the breeze they were physically dominating proceedings and points from O’Leary, Ian O’Mahony and James Taylor helped them to a first quarter advantage, leading by 1-6 to 0-2 as Josh Beausang had the second point for the Shanagarry men.
Russell Rovers did improve in the second quarter with Beausang pointing from play before Luke Duggan-Murray hit over a free and followed it with a point from play. That was to be as good as it got as Erin’s own finished the half strongly with Tomas O’Leary hitting a brace of points to leave Erin’s Own in front by 1-8 to 0-5 at half time.
Russell rovers really needed a good start to the second half but instead it was Erin’s Own who wrapped up the result quickly as points from Tomas O’Leary and Mossy Carroll were followed by a smashing solo goal from wing-back James O’Carroll who soloed 60 meters before shooting into the top corner. Thereafter it was only a case as to what the winning margin would be.
A point in each quarter from Luke Duggan-Murray and Eoin O’Sullivan was all Russell Rovers could offer as Erin’s Own went on a scoring spree as Taylor, O’Carroll, Andrew Power, Eoghan Murphy, O’Leary and sub Tom Foley all kicked points as Erin’s Own cruised into the final.
