Age Action are hosting Getting Started computer classes for the over 55’s which will be free of charge. The course will commence on Friday, 22 February from10.30am – 12.30pm in Glanmire Library. The classes will run for 5 weeks, and each participant will receive one to one tuition. No computer is necessary and instruction can be given on phones, tablets, or any device that allows you to get online.

Speaking with Julie Oates, Regional Project Officer of the Getting Started Programme at Age Action Ireland, she said, “Our Getting Started programmes are very popular and really help people feel empowered in this technological age. The internet, and even a basic computer savviness, is an invaluable tool for all ages.”

Age Action are keen to roll out the programme in other areas of East Cork, and are presently seeking volunteers in and around Midleton who would be interested in being a part of it. Julia said “Interested volunteers can contact me on gettingstarted@ageaction.ie or they can find the opportunity on www.volunteer.ie/volunteers/find-a-volunteer-role by entering “Age Action” in the keyword box when submitting the form.” It's just 2 hours a week for 5 weeks, and your volunteer role could make a huge different to the lives of other people who are eager to begin their computer skills.

For anyone who would like to take part in the course as learners, simply call or text Julie on 087 1956026 to register your interest. Surplus names will be held on file and informed when the next course begins.
