Gardaí Investigate Alleged Rape of Woman in Midleton

Gardaí are investigating the alleged rape of a woman in Midleton. The incident is believed to have taken place at a bar in the town in the early hours of Sunday morning 22 September.

The East Cork Journal understands that the complainant, who is believed to be in her early 30s, was socialising with friends and became separated from them.

It is held that the woman had gone for a cigarette, and when she didn’t return it was assumed she had met someone.

Gardaí confirmed, in reply to queries from the East Cork Journal, that an investigation into the alleged incident has begun.

“Gardaí in Midleton, Co. Cork are investigating an alleged sexual assault on a female which is reported to have occurred on the 22th of September 2019” a Statement said.

“No arrests have been made, and investigations are continuing.”

According to a source, the area where the alleged rape took place was sealed off for several hours on Sunday 22 September, while the scene was being examined by the Garda Technical Bureau for forensic evidence.
