Glanmire Macra Have Awareness and Recruitment Stand

As a club we are always looking to be grow our organisation. Additionally we look to engage with the local community and let them know the work we are actively doing. Over the weekend we achieved both those goals by having a stand in the Glanmire Christmas Craft Fair hosted in Ryan’s Supervalu. Chairperson Sarah O Connell, was joined by Declan O Hara, Aisling Walsh, Sean Ahern, Rebecca Pardy and Michael Buckley to promote Glanmire Macra na Feirme.

It was a great opportunity for the club to inform the people about the different aspects of Macra na Feirme. A number of people were certain that Macra was only for people with an agricultural background. As a club we were able to explain that agriculture was one of 6 pillars of Macra and in Glanmire we were actively involved in all pillars including; travel, performing arts, public speaking, sport and community engagement.

The latter was the focus from Glanmire this weekend and the response from the public was very positive. Thanks to the Christmas Craft organisers for allowing us to engage the community.

Of course, this week also touched on the public speaking pillar as Glanmire’s Senior Debating took on Knockraha in the Seandun Semi Final. Kathleen Fitzgerald, John Lonergan, Michael Buckley and Jenny Murphy proposed the motion that “Macra na Feirme clubs should have closer links with Teagasc at a local level.” In what proved to be a heated debate, both teams refuted and argued passionately with Knockraha Macra getting the nod and edging an excellent debate. Well done to Glanmire for their involvement.

Also Glanmire Macra na Feirme would like to remind people of their forthcoming Christmas themed table quiz in the Stirrup Bar, White’s Cross, Glanmire on the 7th December. This is a charity fundraiser run by the club and we would appreciate all support.

Our weekly sports night continues in the Upper Glanmire Hall. Sport night provides a great informal way to find what Glanmire Macra is all about. The cost is €4 and everyone is welcome to come. If anyone is looking for further information on Glanmire Macra, find us on Facebook or contact our secretary Will on 0877469447.
