Green Party candidate Liam Quaide elected to Cork Co. Council in Midleton LEA

I'm honoured to have been elected to represent the Midleton Local Electoral Area in Cork Co. Council. It was my first time running as a candidate and I learned a lot from the experience. Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I look forward to representing the entire constituency, which includes Youghal, Castlemartyr, Mogeely, Killeagh, Ballycotton, Dungourney, Saleen, Rostellan, Cloyne, East Ferry, Whitegate and Lisgoold.

I'm very grateful for the support of my wife Roisin and staunch Green Party members Eithne Lynch, Frances Gallagher and Mark Cronin. Also, my friend Margaret Keohane was very generous with her time and words of encouragement.

We are facing climate and biodiversity crises which threaten the foundations of our society. We now need radical action at all levels of government. This action would have knock on benefits for us all in the form of better air quality, reduced traffic congestion and warmer homes.

In Ireland, an over-focus by our political establishment on wealth creation by corporations and individuals has eroded our public services and created a housing crisis that is worsening with time. These injustices are doing great harm to many people. I will strive with my political colleagues to address these challenges within the limits of my role.

Congratulations to the other elected Councillors. I look forward to working with you, and I salute all candidates who took part in this demanding contest. Doing so takes serious courage and dedication, regardless of the outcome.
