A unique fundraising event will take place at the Rochestown Park Hotel on Friday 4th October in aid of the Down Syndrome Centre Cork.

Taking inspiration from the massively popular TV show ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’, the event will challenge local celebrities, friends and family of the Centre to become ‘jungle campmates’ for one night of outrageous entertainment and fun! It’s the first event of its kind in Cork. The red team on the night has received an early boost with the announcement that they will be captained by none other than Cork Senior Hurling Captain Séamus Harnedy.

Those taking part in the quirky fundraiser, will be put to the test by taking part in a variety of stomach challenging bush tucker and tension filled physical trials in a bid to be ultimately crowned the King or Queen of the Jungle!

The 24 brave contestants will be divided into two teams and pitted against each other in a bid to collect ‘stars’ for their teams by overcoming their greatest fears including hell holes, bugs, snakes and gourmet critters- yuck! It promises to be a wild evening of rivalry, shocks and plenty of laughs!

Funds raised on the evening will support the continued good work of The Down Syndrome Centre Cork. The centre was founded in 2017 by parents of children with Down Syndrome in response to a recognised need in the Cork region for supports and services for families with young children with Down Syndrome. The services they provide are viewed as essential by those who avail of them and include diagnosis support, early intervention services and building a network of lasting friendships. The Down Syndrome Centre is based in Forge Hill, Cork and currently has 60 children availing of services all of which are subsidised by the centre itself. The Down Syndrome Centre Cork is a registered charity but does not receive any government funding and is wholly reliant on the generosity of the public and local businesses to stay in operation.

Tickets for the ‘I’m a Celebrity’ event, which cost €25pp, are now on sale and can purchased on Eventbrite: www.celeb.eventbrite.ie, from the Down Syndrome Centre on Forge hill (9 am-12 pm, Monday to Friday) or by contacting 0879959776 fundraising@dsccork.ie. if you cannot make the big event on October 4th, donations are graciously accepted via the Eventbrite page.
