Introducing Upper Glanmire Community Association

By Claire O’Donoghue

The inaugural meeting of the new Upper Glanmire Community Association took place last Friday, 25 January. The freshly elected Committee, according to association PRO, Rob Kenny, is made up of a few seasoned members together with several new members, all eager to get down to business. The Committee is made up as follows:

Chairman Anthony Kelleher

Vice Chairman Jerry Burke

P.R.O. Robert Kenny

Treasurer Peter Falvey

Assistant Treasurer Margaret Kelleher

Secretary Bernie Kenny

Assistant Secretary Mary O’Flynn

The Agenda of the meeting last Friday included discussions on the formation of various sub- committees such as Financial, Maintenance, St. Patrick’s Day festivities and fundraising. Ideas were also flowing for some community orientated family events that could be held in the coming year. The new Committee is dedicated to planning, discussion and acting on common goals that will be of benefit to the area going forward.

Speaking with The East Cork Journal, PRO Rob Kenny said, “That is what a community association is all about. At the meeting, there was a real sense of enthusiasm around discussions and the sharing of opinions as well as workloads and responsibilities. There is a lot of work to be done and, to that end, we welcome all ideas from the public with regard to beneficial amenities for the area and fundraising to achieve them.” For now, contact can be made through the Upper Glanmire Community Association Facebook page, though they hope to have other avenues of contact available soon. The next Committee Meeting will take place on Wednesday, 6 February.

Best of luck to the new Association Committee from all at The East Cork Journal.
