Just Two Weeks Until the Ballinrostig Vintage Club’s Annual Field Day

By Alan Sheehan

Ballinrostig Vintage Club will hold its Annual Field Day in two weeks’ time on Sunday, 2 July.
The Vintage Club, this year celebrating its 10th anniversary, is holding its Annual Field Day in Ballinrostig from 1-6pm. The field itself will be signposted and parking will be free. Entry for adults is priced at €5 while children’s admission is free of charge.
“We are ten years on the go now, from 2007 to 2017,” said Jim Wall, Chairman of Ballinrostig Vintage Club. “Our Field Day this year will be held in conjunction with the Munster Sheep Dog Trials. Both events are hosted by John Pope, the landowner. He competes with his own dogs and has won a good few competitions in the past. The Sheep Dog Trials begin at 11am and the official opening takes place at 1pm.”
The Field Day will feature a plethora of activities including displays of vintage cars, tractors, bikes, trucks and stationary engines, trade stalls, the Munster Sheep Dog Trials, sheaf throwing, music, a tractor race for the Pat Hickey Memorial Trophy, children’s activities and refreshments.
“We’re having a tractor build on the day,” said Mr Wall. “The all-Ireland champions from Coachford came down last year and are coming down again this year to assemble a tractor. They will dissemble it and put it back together within five or six minutes. We have plenty of children’s amusement, and we are also celebrating 100 years of Ford in Ireland so we will have a couple of stalls with cars and tractors on the day. The Bride Valley Boys will be providing musical entertainment and we will have a dance stage set up too. We also have the usual activities such as barrel train, face painting, treasure hunt, roll a beer bar, thrashing and so on.”
Proceeds raised from the day will go towards the Vintage Club’s end-of-year cheque presentations to Marymount Hospice, Midleton Hospital and other local charities.
Those looking to register a vehicle or local traders wishing to book a pitch on the day can contact Ballinrostig Vintage Club by the group’s Facebook page or email ballinrostigvintage@gmail.com.
