Lana Merkusheva held her Bake Sale and Coffee Morning in Killeagh on Friday, 7 December to help fund the student’s charity event, which is a trek to Mount Everest Base Camp in aid of The Meningitis Research Foundation. Lana must raise €3,300 to take part in the Challenge, half of which covers expenses and flights and half of which goes directly to the Meningitis Foundation.
It was at a presentation by the Meningitis Research Foundation in UCC that 2nd year Criminology student, Lana, discovered that students are the second most likely demographic to contract meningitis, a deadly disease which, in its most potent form, has the potential to kill in just 12 hours. She was quick to sign up and help raise awareness by taking on an 11-day round trip trek to Everest Base Camp in the midst of the Himalayas on the border between Nepal and Tibet.
Speaking with The East Cork Journal following the Bake Sale, Lana said, “The Bake Sale went very well! I was very happy with it altogether. There was a great turnout of people and local support and I’m delighted to report that we raised €500 on the day. I promoted my upcoming raffle which will be taking place on Saturday, 22 December. Winners will be picked randomly by an online programme. Entrants are just €5 a line and there are plenty of prizes up for grabs, just in time for Christmas!!
I would like to thank the friends who helped me host the Bake Sale, and the Community Hall committee for the use of the premises. Also huge thanks to all who donated baked treats, everyone who attended and all those who already have, or will buy tickets for the raffle which are on sale using my social media link, in the Old Thatch Killeagh, and Read and Write in Youghal. Many thanks also to all those who donated prizes.”
There are certainly some fantastic prizes in Lana’s raffle including, for sample, a George Foreman Grill, Gavin James Concert tickets, Hampers, beauty products, passes to Cork On Ice, The Jameson Experience (please note they are two separate events!!) and much more.
Please consider buying a ticket for the raffle to help Lana raise the much needed funds for a very worthy cause.
