Killeagh Choir Returns Home On Song

By Claire O’Donoghue

Killeagh Choir returns with the Trophy as winners of The National Ladies Open Competition at the Cork International Choral Festival. The 5 day Festival, now in its 64th year, included a varied programme with choirs from all over the world taking part in competitions and gala concerts, much to the delight of all. Under the baton of Mary Peddar-Daly the Killeagh Choir performed two songs, “Jabula” and “The Ships of Arcady”. They sailed through to win the specially commissioned Trophy designed by artist, Fiona Godfrey. “The older you get the sweeter the taste of victory” said Mary.
The Choir will perform in Garryvoe Hotel on Sunday, 13 May at 8pm as part of an Evening of Musical Delights. High quality entertainment is assured, with musical variety to suit all tastes. The programme is a tribute to Strauss, opera, songs from modern musicals and much more. The Five Tenors of East Cork are also taking to the stage, as well as Midleton based tenor, Charlie McAllistair. Frank Ryan and Sarah O’Mahony will perform some well-known duets to enthral the crowd. Mandolin player, Tom O’Sullivan from Ballycotton, as well as a host of sopranos and mezzo sopranos, will give their rendition of all the best loved classics. The evening will be sprinkled with humour and fun to add to the glitz and glamour of the occasion.
Tickets are just €15 and can be reserved at O’Neill’s Londis in Killeagh (024 95165), any Choir member, or purchase at the door on the night.
