Killeagh Community Centre Committee Receive Title Deeds after 13 Years

By Claire O'Donoghue

The Killeagh Community Centre Committee held their AGM last Tuesday, 5 June. An announcement was made beforehand asking for public attendance to show support for the local hall that has served everyone in the area so well for so many years. Much to the delight of the Committee, the meeting was very well attended. The main topics discussed were as follows:
Following a 13 year battle with the Council and a cost of over €5,000, the committee was pleased to finally announce that they are now in possession of the Title Deeds to the Community Centre. This is a huge victory for the committee as the possession of the Title Deeds is crucial to enable them apply for, and avail of any suitable Government grants to aid in the upkeep, maintenance and renovation of the building. Grant opportunities have been lost in the past due to Title Deeds not being available. A grant has been awarded for the resurfacing of the school side of the building, but fundraising must be done in order to draw down the grant. Until now, rental costs have barely covered the most basic upkeep of the premises.
Fundraising was discussed at length and some very good, creative ideas were forthcoming. To that end, plans are being put in place to organise short, medium and long term fundraising schemes. Candidates have been chosen to set about these tasks and organise ideas received at the AGM.
Elected officers for the coming year are:
