Back in 1977 Killeagh Macra was a strong proactive Group who, representing the Imokilly Region, won the prestigious Efficiency Competition at Cork Show. This was a fantastic achievement and the prize, which was a week's trip to Italy, was sponsored by AIB.
In October of that year, thirty of the Killeagh members headed off to Rome and enjoyed the trip of a lifetime and now, forty years later, James O'Keeffe thought it opportune to celebrate together at a Ruby Reunion. Hosted in The Quality Hotel on Friday night last, a superb evening of reminiscences, delightful memories, and a few tales out of school were recounted!
Members who had relocated from the area were delighted to be back in East Cork for the celebrations and had no trouble recognising each other, with many exclamations of "You didn't change a bit!".
Missed on the evening were three Macra members-Danny Flavin, Johnny Browne and Oliver Motherway RIP and a Minute's Silence was held to remember them and other family members who have died in the meantime.
Speaking with The East Cork Journal Marian Mariga said it was so fantastic to meet with her Macra friends 40 years later. "We all have great memories of our times back then, and it was a great opportunity for an evening of "do you remember when...."
Two couples celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversaries, Liz and Frank Motherway and Virginia and John O'Mahony who travelled down from Galway for the Reunion, and they were each presented with flowers.
The event was a fantastic success hugely enjoyed by all, and the group is already planning and looking forward to their next Reunion which, hopefully, will not take another 40 years!!
