Lap of the Map Challenge, Ballycotton to Youghal to Helvic Head

Athletics veteran Mary Nolan-Hickey is taking on the challenge of lifetime for the lives of others. At the age of 65, she started out New Year’s Day 2018 on her task, to try and run around the entire coast of the island of Ireland visiting as lifeboat stations as possible , quite literally “a lap of the map”. Mary’s iconic venture is in aid of the men and women of the RNLI who risk their lives to save people at sea. The distance is an estimated 5,000km, though no one is entirely sure. The RNLI receive no government funding so all donations are vital and gratefully received.
Mary will be running the Ballycotton to Youghal leg of her challenge on 1 April and continuing on to Helvic Head on 2 April. Mary would like to invite people to join in and run with her anywhere along the route. Those last few miles of every run can be gruelling so come out to show your support and welcome her as she reaches her day’s destination. For many other ways to help Mary and get involved see the webpage and her blog on
